After reading the book Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg, the First Graders practiced turning scraps from paper from the recycle bin into something new in their sketchbooks. Check out these imaginative ideas! This winter the First Graders enjoyed drawing one another doing seasonal activities like skiing, making snow angels, and drinking hot cocoa. This observational drawing exercise challenged the students to look more closely at the human body in action. The students transformed these dynamic drawings into collaged figures and added them to their winter landscape pictures. The landscape pictures not only included a figure in action but also a horizon line and evergreen trees.
This fall the First Graders created honeycomb prints by painting bubble wrap with yellow paint and then pressing it onto a piece of brown paper. They used this paper to decorate their hexagon bee books!
